Amy Fitzpatrick grandmother of missing teenager Amy Fitzpatrick spoke of her anguish at reports that a body found in Spain might be her beloved grandaughter.Maura Donohoe (80) she suffered a "serious fright" when she saw a TV3 report about an unidentified body found near the town where the 15-year-old girl was last seen before she disappeared on January 1 last year."I got such a fright. I thought it could be Amy," said Maura, speaking at her home in Coolock in Dublin."But then I got a call from [Amy's mother] Audrey who told me the Spanish police told her it was a man's body." An intensive search of the region in the Costa del Sol at the beginning of 2008 failed to find any trace of the vanished Irish girl. Amy lived in Spain her mother, brother Dean, and Audrey's partner Dave Mahon.Maura added: "Audrey rang me immediately after the reports went out about the body. My stomach was going up and down. I got an awful fright and I couldn't settle down after it."I know if the Spanish police had found Amy's body they would have contacted the gardai who would have contacted us. But it was such a fright. Audrey spoke to Dean too to let him know it wasn't Amy's body. We will never give up hope for Amy. I've been getting loads of Masses said for her," she said."The Spanish newspapers reported it was the body of a man three days ago.Meanwhile, forensic experts continue to examine the body which was badly burned.A local person made the gruesome find on Sunday lunchtime as he was out walking near the Costa del Sol resort of Mijas.

Forest fire which broke out in Mijas yesterday evening at about 7,45pm, has seen the evacuation of 300 local residents from the Buenavista urbanisation in the town overnight. The local sports centre at Las Lagunas is being used as a reception centre for the people.10 fire-fighting units and a team of 70 people continued to work against the flames overnight, while the Mayor of Mijas, Antonio Sánchez, told the press that the fire had been started deliberately.A statement made at 3,15 this morning said that one front was now under control, while another was still active. Access to Mi jas from the A7 and the A-368 has been cut.
Infoca says that local firemen from Mijas, Fuengirola and Benalmádena have been supported by others from Sevilla, Córdoba and Granada.

Mijas authorities on the Costa del Sol have issued fines to 20 owners of what they deem to be illegal homes in the municipality, after they repudiated demands to bulldoze their properties, according to Spanish Property Insight. The homeowners will now have to pay the fines, which are believed to be around 10% of the property value, or face having their assets frozen. “With help from friends you can cope with the first fine, but after that it gets more difficult,” one of the fined owners said in an interview with Spanish newspaper ‘El Pais’. “They can issue you with up to a dozen fines, and there is no budget that can deal with that.”It’s been reported that there are around 8,000 homes in the Mijas area that possess planning problems, approximately a quarter of which are being threatened with demolition.
Back in January, a British couple became the first expatriates to have their Spanish property, located in Almera, bulldozed after government officials ruled that their £570,000 villa had been constructed illegally.

The case of the dangerous conditions at the St Javier’s International Nursery in Marbella, has led the authorities to take a closer look at other international schools in the area, and it’s now thought that at least twelve international schools are operating in the province of Málaga without permission.
The owner of St Javier’s has been arrested and she has been working there for 12 years without the regional Educational authorities knowing about it.The Málaga Hoy newspaper says that there are at least a dozen international educational centres on the Costa del Sol which are not authorised. It says most of these are international establishments, in Mijas, Marbella and Estepona, and are operating without the approval of the regional authorities. They are generally nurseries but some teach up to the Bachillerato level.Those that are correctly authorised are listed on the Regional Education Authority website - www.juntadeandalucia.es/educacion/

Police are reportedly looking for another car linked to the disappearance of the 15 year old Irish youngster Amy Fitzpatrick who vanished from Mijas Costa three months ago.The Police now consider that, given the time passed without any news, that it is no longer likely that Amy left of her own free will on January 1. Searches carried out locally, and also in the Sierra de las Nieves have found nothing despite a report of some clothes being seen in the area by a resident of the village of Tolox when out collecting mushrooms.Government Sub-delegate for the province of Málaga, Hilario López Luna, said the police were looking for another car, although there are no reports on possible car model of colour. Police continue to search for an earlier car, owned by a family friend, and missing since Amy vanished, which is a white Ford Fiesta, registration number C955 SLK.

A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy's whereabouts.

Stepfather David Mahon revealed yesterday he was prepared to pay a "substantial" amount of money to anyone who could help unravel her mystery disappearance.
parents of missing expat Amy Fitzpatrick have offered a cash reward for information on her whereabouts.Franco Rey, spokesman for Mr Mahon and Amy's mum Audrey, said: "A substantial reward is on offer to anyone who can provide reliable information on Amy's whereabouts. Any information received will be treated within the strictest confidence."The amount has not been specified but is thought to run into four figures.Mr Rey said: "David doesn't want to make an amount public as he feels he would be putting a price on Amy but it is a substantial amount." Amy has not been seen since 10pm on New Year's Day when she left a friend's house to walk to her nearby home on Spain's Costa del Sol.Friends of the teenager held a small party on February 7 to mark her 16th birthday.The reward offer comes after Amy's mother and stepfather travelled to Spain's Costa Blanca near Alicante to publicise her disappearance. Mr Mahon (36) has also travelled to Tangiers in northern Morocco to investigate the possibility the teenager was snatched and taken to Africa.
Rewards have also been offered for missing Briton Madeleine McCann and missing Spanish girl Mari Luz Cortes.The family of five-year-old Mari Luz, snatched from her home in Huelva in south-west Spain on January 13, is offering €300,000 for information on her whereabouts.Rewards totalling £2.6m were offered within 10 days of Madeleine McCann's disappearance on May 3 last year from the Algarve holiday resort of Praia da Luz.

The Fitzpatrick family are upset to hear press reports that the Spanish authorities had begun a series of digs in a stretch of land where the teenager was last seen in the Costa del Sol.
"Stories that they are digging in a field are poppycock, absolute rubbish," .
The investigation by the Guardia Civil is continuing and that Ms Fitzpatrick has received no new information from them. He also renewed the family's appeal for anyone who might have seen Amy in Spain or elsewhere to contact the authorities.
The teenager vanished on the evening of New Year's Day as she walked home from a friend's house.
Despite a high-profile publicity campaign, there have still been no confirmed sightings of Amy.
Investigators are becoming increasingly convinced Amy has disappeared voluntarily, rather than being abducted. The teenager had been off school for more than a year after being bullied and had confided in friends that she was unhappy in Spain and wanted to return to Ireland.
Police are also still searching for a white Ford Fiesta belonging to Richie O'Shea, a friend of the family, who was taken in for questioning. Detectives believe this car, which has the number plate C955 SLK, could be crucial to their investigation.
Amy is reported to have driven the car on several occasions after opening it with a screwdriver.
However, Mr O'Shea (34) has denied that she used the car in the past and insists he reported it missing to a police translator after realising it was gone two days after the teenager had disappeared.

A candlelit demonstration for Amy Fitzpatrick safe return takes place in Mijas this Sunday, to, as Mijas Town Hall said in a press release, keep alive the hope that she will be found. It comes at the instigation of a number of local residents of differing faiths, including Catholic, Evangelical and Baptist, the Town Hall said, and it’s understood that Amy’s family will be there at the demonstration. It takes place at 7pm on Sunday 3rd February on the Bulevar de La Cala in Mijas Costa.

The Junta de Andalucía is to receive 2.5 million € compensation for a forest fire in the Sierra de Mijas in 2001 to cover the cost of the fire fighting effort, as well as the reforestation of 590 hectares of public land. The money will be paid by the company, Volksfürge, the insurers of the rental car which started the fire, and is said by 20 minutos to be the first agreement of its type.
The fire started late on 28th July 2001 when the car broke down on the road to Coín. A spark from the smoking engine started the first flames, which rapidly spread in winds of more than 40 kph, and caused 300 people to be evacuated from their homes.
The blaze destroyed 600 hectares before it was finally extinguished several days later.fires in Istán and Casares were both started through negligence
Police have made two arrests in connection with two forest fires in Málaga province which were both started through negligence.
A fire which broke out in Istán was brought under control after four hours after destroying an estimated 20 hectares. The person believed to be responsible for starting the blaze was, according to a report in Diario Sur, using an electric saw without proper fire prevention precautions.
Another arrest was made in connection with a fire which destroyed 2.5 hectares in the Baños de la Hedionda area of Casares on 7th August. It is the second arrest in the case.
And in Benaoján, the authorities are still investigating the cause of a blaze which destroyed two hectares in the Cueva del Gato area on Tuesday.
